Privacy Policy

In this policy, "we" and "us" means James Hayden, DiveCut's developer, until transfer to DiveCut Pty. Ltd. From then on, it means DiveCut Pty. Ltd.

What the DiveCut app does not do

• It does not upload your videos, frames, reels or ratings anywhere.
• It does not collect analytics, usage statistics or telemetry of its own.
• It does not include crash-reporting, advertising or tracking software. (TestFlight's crash reports come from Apple — see below.)
• It does not include any third-party software libraries.
• It does not ask for your name, email address or an account.
• It does not access your location, camera or microphone.

What DiveCut uses on your iPhone

Videos you pick. You choose videos with Apple's photo picker or the Files app. DiveCut sees only the videos you pick, and needs no permission to read your photo library.

Adding reels to Photos. DiveCut asks permission only to add a finished reel to your photo library. You can turn this off at any time in iOS Settings.

What DiveCut keeps on your iPhone

DiveCut keeps all of this in its own storage on your iPhone:

• a copy of each video you import, so DiveCut keeps working even if you delete the original;
• the clips, still frames, scores and reels DiveCut makes from your videos;
• your clip ratings;
• a learning record. Each time you rate a clip, DiveCut notes the rating with technical details it worked out about that clip, such as its scores. It also notes each imported video's file name, size and length. The record holds no photos, video or location, and DiveCut uses it only on your iPhone, to shape the reels it builds later;
• a few settings, including what DiveCut has learned from your ratings.

If you use iCloud Backup, your iPhone's backup includes DiveCut's copies of your videos and everything else listed above.

How long it's kept, and how to delete it

• DiveCut keeps everything until you delete it.
• Deleting a dive removes DiveCut's copy of its videos, and its clips, frames and scores. It does not remove that dive's entries in the learning record, or what DiveCut has learned from your ratings.
• In DiveCut's Settings, Storage › Remove Leftovers deletes video copies and still frames that no dive uses.
• DiveCut has no setting to clear the learning record. To erase everything DiveCut stores on your iPhone, including the learning record, delete the DiveCut app.

Processing happens on your iPhone

Everything DiveCut does with your videos runs entirely on your iPhone, using Apple's on-device frameworks. No part of a video, and nothing worked out from a video, is sent off your iPhone for processing. DiveCut uses the internet only when you tap Privacy Policy or Support in the app, which opens this website. If you pick a video that's stored only in iCloud, iOS downloads it to your iPhone before DiveCut can use it.

When footage leaves your iPhone

DiveCut never sends your footage anywhere by itself. DiveCut sends it off your iPhone only when you choose:

• You share or save a reel. DiveCut hands it to iOS's share sheet or adds it to Photos; from then on it is covered by the privacy policy of wherever you sent it.
• You send us a screenshot through TestFlight, or attach something to an email.

Testing with TestFlight

If you test DiveCut through Apple's TestFlight app, Apple automatically sends us some information about your testing, whatever your iPhone's analytics settings. You can't turn this off while you test:

• crash reports, and usage details such as how often you open the beta, your iPhone model and iOS version;
• if we invited you by email, the name and email address we used. If you joined through a public link, Apple doesn't show us your name or email unless you add your email to feedback;
• anything you choose to send as feedback — comments and screenshots — plus technical details such as free storage and battery level. A screenshot of DiveCut can show your footage, so check it before you send.

We use this only to find and fix problems in DiveCut. We keep crash reports and feedback until the beta ends, plus one year. Apple explains its own handling in its TestFlight & Privacy statement: https://www.apple.com/legal/privacy/data/en/test-flight/

Emails

If you email us — for help, or to ask to join the beta — we receive your email address and what you send. We use them only to reply and, if you asked to join, to invite you to the beta. We keep support emails until the beta ends, plus one year.

Seeing or deleting what we hold

To ask what we hold about you, or to have it deleted, email support@divecut.com. We'll delete what we can and tell you about anything we can't. Apple keeps its own copy of TestFlight information; you can see and manage it at privacy.apple.com.

This website

This website is hosted on Cloudflare, which may run an automatic security check in your browser.

Children

DiveCut is not directed at children.

Changes to this policy

If DiveCut's data handling changes, this page will be updated and the date at the top will change. Material changes will also be noted in the notes that come with the update.
